About Emma C. Koesters , MD

Dr. Koesters is an assistant professor of plastic and reconstructive surgery at the Keck School of Medicine of USC. She received her medical degree from the Weill Cornell College of Medicine, where she was first exposed to reconstructive surgery. Dr Koesters developed a passion for reconstruction after seeing the transformative changes plastic surgeons could provide in patients’ lives, particularly in improving quality of life for cancer and trauma patients. She completed an integrated plastic surgery residency here at the Keck School of Medicine of USC, then pursued additional fellowship training in supermicrosurgery at the University of Chicago Medical Center to focus on physiologic surgery for lymphedema.

Dr Koesters has particular interests in breast reconstruction, extremity reconstruction, and lymphatic surgery. She is now Co-director of Keck Medicine’s Lymphedema Program, offering highly specialized surgical interventions for this common and morbid complication of breast cancer treatment. She believes in working closely with patients to understand their individual goals and optimize postoperative outcomes.

I believe in a comprehensive approach to women’s health and breast cancer reconstruction. I use the latest tools available in microsurgery to tailor surgery to each patient’s needs and not only restore, but enhance quality of life. Every patient’s journey is unique, and I strive to be a long-term partner and advocate for all my patients.
