About Peter G. Phung , MD

Dr. Peter Phung is a Clinical Associate Professor of Medicine at the Keck School of Medicine of USC, and the Director of Palliative Medicine and Supportive Care at Keck Medicine of USC.  Dr. Phung is board-certified in Hospice and Palliative Medicine and Internal Medicine.   

Dr. Phung received his medical degree from St. George’s University School of Medicine. He then completed his internal medicine residency at Scripps Mercy Hospital in San Diego, and his fellowship in hospice and palliative medicine at UC San Diego. He also received his Master of Business Administration from UC San Diego. 

In 2017, Dr. Phung co-founded the first 3 Wishes Program in the United States, a palliative care initiative that seeks to humanize and personalize the patient care experience in the hospital.   

His research interests include integrating palliative care throughout all aspects of the patient care journey, improving quality of life for patients with serious illness, health informatics, and quality improvement. He is also passionate about education and has received numerous teaching awards. 

My passion is to support patients and their families through the uncertain and often difficult journey of dealing with a serious illness. Whether it's providing physical, emotional, or spiritual support, my goal is to alleviate suffering and improve quality of life for my patients. I strive to work closely with patients and their families to provide individualized care that meets the patient's needs and aligns with their values and goals.
