About Sebastian Mallol Jara , MD
Sebastian Jara, MD, MPH, is a sleep fellowship-trained otolaryngologist at Keck Medicine of USC, who specializes in treating snoring and obstructive sleep apnea. Dr. Jara is committed to listening to and partnering with his patients to provide exceptional care that best matches their needs, preferences and values. He uses his expertise to design personalized treatment plans to improve the overall health and quality of life of his patients.

Dr. Jara is a dedicated researcher, whose focus is to understand the causes of snoring and obstructive sleep apnea and to develop cutting-edge surgical and non-surgical treatments for these conditions as an alternative to CPAP (continuous positive airway pressure) machines.

In addition to his research projects, he has authored numerous peer-reviewed journal articles in his field of expertise, including a study with over 1.5 million veteran patients on the association between sleep apnea and cancer, which was funded by the National Institutes of Health (NIH). He also authored a study describing a novel surgery to facilitate widening of the maxilla (i.e., the upper jaw) to help address sleep and nasal breathing issues in patients with this condition.

Dr. Jara is passionate about providing care to underserved communities, and he has served as a volunteer surgeon/otolaryngologist at the Hospital Loma de Luz, located in the northern coast of Honduras.

Dr. Jara is a member of several professional organizations, including the American Academy of Otolaryngology–Head and Neck Surgery, the International Surgical Sleep Society, the Triological Society and the American Academy of Sleep Medicine. He also serves as an assistant professor of clinical otolaryngology–head and neck surgery at the Keck School of Medicine of USC.

In his free time, Dr. Jara enjoys sports, traveling, exploring the Los Angeles food scene and spending time with his family.
“I aim to treat my patients the way I would like to be treated as a patient — with compassion, care and expertise.

“Communication and trust are most important to my relationship with my patients. Patients trust their doctors to guide them on the most personal aspects of their health and well-being. I view this trust as a privilege and a responsibility to provide my patients with the highest level of care.”
